Erratic Shifting
I have a 92 C4 convertible with 46k miles, LT1 and a 799R4 transmission. The car has always been well maintained and have never had any issues with it. This past weekend I took it for a lengthy drive through the canyons of Angels Crest highway along with the Porsche Club of America . While I was the only non german vehicle in the caravan I was made felt welcome from the go. The ride was roughly 90 miles going up and down some great turns and right after our mid way break at mile 70, I noticed my car was not behaving properly. While coasting at about 45 and preparing for the turns the car started shifting strangely, going into tall gears when the slowing down and then when I would give it gas it seemed like the gears were lasting way too long and then they would literally throw you like a slingshot. My initial thought was that I may be low on ATF. I pulled over and checked for any suspicious scents or anything leaking. I found nothing wrong, the ATF is not burnt nor does it look black, it is a bright color red. I did not have any warning lights in the DIC. The car was idling just like a sewing machine (smooth and even) and at a stop sign I gave it gas and it felt like it was starting out in 4th gear. I shifted manually for a few miles and then finally hit the highway to get home. Once I got off the highway I had zero issues and nothing like what I had experienced. I did a little bit of research and thought of the possibility of it being the TV cables. I did not want to mess with them so I took it to my mechanic who is more interested in keeping his customers happy rather than selling them stuff one does not need. After having the car for a day he called me today to say that I have a fantastic 92 vette in awesome shape. There was nothing he could find wrong. Do you guys have any suggestions?
thanks
