My transmission took its final trip. I have a 96 ProCharged LT1 with a 4L60E transmission. Car produces 450 ft-lbs torque at the wheels from basically 1500 rpm to redline. Looks like the 3-4 clutch pack went bad, most likely from my blowing a tranny cooler line at highway speeds and running the thing darn near out of oil last fall. I’m looking to replace the stock tranny with one from Monster Transmission based on some internet searches.
anyone have experience with them? I like that they come with a new torque converter and a 3-year warranty. I can’t find anything really good or bad about them. Monster Transmission
thanks!

Reason: Bad url
And this is why we ask questions boys and girls! I did some searches on LS1Tech and didn't turn up those threads. Performabuilt seems to be the consensus on other forums for the most part. I don't trust anyone local to do the build.
You're setting yourself up for 'maybe' certain disappointment. I'd do nothing without first doing some more serious 'local' conversations! Your posted location hints there should be serious options available within a reasonable drive! reasonable drive = local!!

i am planning to discuss with a couple of speed shops for recommendations. I never say never. At first I wanted local but had trouble with getting recommendations and objective review/comments. Seems like every review is by someone’s uncle, cousin, brother,...I tried the local vette club but only got dealership recommendations.
But in post #3 you said exactly that .. OR so it was most likely read by many/most! Reasonable drive/tow says much for diagnostics/issues into the future. Many 'performance' builders prefer to or insist it's their install! Procharged and an 60e build that could be quite valuable!
I used their 500hp kit to rebuild a 700R4 in a 84 Trans Am and it works great. Cant speak to their complete transmissions however.
How do they do warranty? Something I had before when you get a kit and someone else builds it and things go south. Builder blames parts and parts blames builder. You, OTOH, get screwed.

Ask me how I know.
Thats unfortunate. I wouldnt know since it worked out for me. Ive built 3 transmissions so far, I used an Art Carr kit for a TH2004R, the monster kit for the TH700R4, and an amazon kit that was red alto clutches for a 4L60E that is in my 85 vette LQ4 swap. All were successful and I am no means a pro.
Art Carr was a complete *** when I tried to ask him questions about different parts. But the 2004R works great behind a 450hp 383 gen 1 in my 81 trans am. He also sells parts for the 700R4.

How they warranty is a great question. They advertise 3-years, unlimited miles but not really any other details. I was looking at buying a completed transmission and exchanging mine for a core charge so there shouldn’t be a builder vs supplier issue but I could see them blaming an installer...it’s a crappy world at times.

Blaming the installer is probably a little more difficult than to blame the builder after say a year, I would think. Kinda why that soured me on kits. If I buy a kit, I have to be able AND willing to do it myself. Or for a transmission, I have them do it all and get someone with a lift to install.

I wouldn’t be afraid of doing either but for health reasons, it’s currently beyond my physical capability.
thats sucks. with all that torque ,your 3/4 clutches could be flexing. who knows
I just rebuilt my 700R4/4L60. used sonnax smart tech housing , smart shell, 5 pinion planetary gears ,extra wide band. upgrades everything I could. 4L60E videos (transmissionbench.com) best video I have found.

I don't want to build a transmission or engine myself. I have installed those with a cherry picker and definitely don't want to do it again. Way too miserable trying to get them both in at the same time. IF I didn't, not sure how to take the transmission from below without much room. Fortunately it was on a different car that was easier looking. Connected trans to engine and angled it in and kicked myself for doing it alone.
One thing about Rossler is he does not like to build it and send it to you and at some point, you return the core. He prefers to rebuild your junked trans.
So I went to 2 highly respected speed shops today and both recommended the same transmission shop. Looks like comparable build to PerformaBuilt level 2, similar price range. So it looks like I’m going local after all. Thanks for the input!
