On a long trip last fall to Northern Ontario, I snapped the 1-2 shift shaft on an easy shift from 2 to 1. Fortunately, it went into neutral and I was able to get the car home by feathering the clutch and driving only with 3rd and 4th, plus the OD. I was unable to obtain a new shaft (GM P/N 14081168), but I got an earlier one off Ebay. However the older one had the flats on the threads at a different angle than the stock one, so I made a new shift lever to match the new angle. Because the older unit had no flats to make the OD operate in 2,3,4, I had to bypass the switch with a proximity sensor under the console to sense when the transmission is in 4th gear and it closes a relay to enable the OD. Anyway, after all the BS, the arm that I made is wearing out, and occasionally preventing me from getting the shifter out of reverse and into first, when the neutrals just don't line up. I'm done with the messing around on this and would be happiest returning back to the stock shaft and arm. I'm not interested in a 5 or 6 speed swap as I'd like to keep this car as close to stock as possible. After all this, has anyone got a source for the original 1-2 shift shaft with the detent for OD? I'm in Canada, if this makes a shipping difference.
I'd suggest initiating a WTB for the correct part #'d shaft here in the C4 Parts Section. There's units 'parted' from time to time and if someone had a known bad unit it's not much of an effort to put their hands on your request. On the correct shaft is there a casting reference #?
You might also initiate an eBay request for the same.
