You might just want to reconsider this air intake location. As I was told several years ago, Rippie tried this position on his LeMans car and LOST 50HP!
It seems that by the time you get going fast enough to benefit from any ram effect, the airflow diverts more over/under nose.
Rippie had a LeMans entry? I didn't know that, I'm no aerodynamicist so I could not argue one way or the other.
I was actually looking to get cool air into the engine on my application, my Datamaster software claims to calculate "real time" HP so I suppose I could make test runs with & without it (duct) sometime. May use the G-Tech also..
Thanks for the info Red 90 L98 Coupe; I've never seen another one. Yours is actually a true 3" diameter? I had always wondered about that. The guy I purchased this one from was telling me it was an actual racing version & that it would require extra cutting to fit the larger duct work. I figured he might have been a little windy until I started installing it. :smash:
well i dont know about rippies lemans car but i do that that a forum member with a zr1 had the same system installed and stood in front of the car when it was on the dyno with a 80mph leaf blower he ran the dyno just like it was then he ran the dyno while he was aiming(aiming not ramming the blower up the hole) the blower at the front of the car and picked up i belive 8 rwhp hopefully he will chime in and correct me if im wrong so thats where im basing my thoughts
on the product
1996man,
You know your probably correct that it would run good enough to get around town in with a cover over the duct opening, I was just setting here thinking about the stock air box, & it doesn't have much area for air to enter either & it does ok. :)
No, I have not, it doesn't affect chassis rigidity so I'm not too concerned, that structure up there has more to do with mounting the bumper & to degree front-end crash protection/impact absorption. Like I said in an earlier post I can't see the average-joe mail ordering one like this & going to that much trouble/cutting to install it.
Nothing like a Red ZR1 on a dyno to get me pumped up in morning, we just need to figure out how to mount that leaf blower inside the duct work.

Re: Forced Air induction question. (superlund)
Well guys I have to admit that I had a real case of brain fade. I had a think about what size the ducting was and recall that it was actually 5/1/2 inches in diameter... :bb
superlund, I don't have any pics but you definitely have a much larger duct area than I do.
I thought I'd have to do a little cutting to install... Boy was I wrong... No regrets now though. :D
