Hello all! Well my battery has decided to puke battery acid all over the place and it has taken out the bolt to the positive battery terminal. In despiration to get the battery out of the car i decided to cut up the positive battery cable. Now my problem is that i went to buy a replacement at the local pep boys and they give me a different cable, my cable has 3 wires coming out of the positive cable, 2 red, 1 black. What the heck do all of these do and what part do i need to order. Any help is greatly appreciated! I miss my baby!
The one from pep boys would be good enough to go from one fuse block, but thats it. How do i tie all 3 in together so that i can connect to the battery? Thanks
The large wire that goes from the battery to the starter carries all of the current to the starter and main circuits. The small wires supply the auxilary circuits that always have power.
My recommendations would be to go to a Chevy dealer and get the origional style cable OR splice some 10 guage stranded wire into the large cable.
I would find some large shrink tubing that will fit over the large cable, then just about an inch or so from the battery connection cut a 1/2 inch wide section of insulation all the way around the large cable. Then I would weave the 10 guage wires into the strands of the large cable and solder them in place. You will not be reducing the current carring capability of the large cable. Then all you have to do is heat shrink (I would do two layers of shrink) the area where you spliced in the wires. Then I would solder the small aux wires to the ones that come from the fuse boxes.
