Just go talk to any tranny repair guy. Don't ask, "can you build a 700r4 strong enough for me?" Ask, "can a th400 be built stronger than a 700r4?" Anybody that answers that last question "no" is a liar. All will agree that the th400 can be built stronger than a 700r4. So, you then decide, do I want the strongest tranny possible? Or do I want to spend a ton of dough and hope somebody can build a 700r4 "stong enough." Remember, opinions are like parts of our anatomy, we all have one. Good luck.

Money is OBVIOUSLY not an issue with you then, is it? The issue here is not about how strong a th400 can be built. We know it'll withstand more than an r4...the issue is having a car with a useful overdrive. If your motor makes 500hp, and has a 250hp shot of NOS on it, then your tranny needs to withstand 800hp or so to live a happy healthy life.
If your motor makes 450hp and doesn't USE NOS, you don't need the same overdesign. Past a certain point, you're just throwing away money. Will a 400+Gearvendor's live? Yup. Will it cost more than $4500? Probably.
Will a stout 700r4 live? if it's built right. Will it cost 1/3 to 1/2 less? Most likely.
Will a $1350 700r4 off the Web live? That's really hard to say.
And it's not about talking to 'any tranny repair guy'...we've got plenty of anectodalt evidence that there are tranny repair guys and there are Tranny Repair Guys.
Can you give me web site to this 700r4 tranny. Also I would buy this tranny if it can soak up at least 900hp at the fly, I was going to go toward buying a th400 but then I woulod have to buy a gearvendors OD unit just to go on the freeway without the engine rpm noise eating my head and being so loud.
