. My car is stalling after driving for 5-10 miles down the road. Starts right back up immediately and idles perfect but wants to act like the engine is about to die again until it acts like the fuel pump has quit. I just replaced the fuel pump.
Again it wants to stall after driving for a few minutes. Could this be the alternator?
My dash lights are flickering too.
Parts I recently replaced:
Fuel pump
starter
plugs
plug wires
cap and rotor button
control module
injectors
ignition coil
pickup coil
battery.
You replaced all those parts because? I would check fuel first. Use a gauge. Turn the key to "run" and see if it spikes. If it does, what does it spike to? IDK the value for an 85 but someone will. After the spike, turn the key off and see if it holds that pressure and for how long.
BTW, did you replace the fuel dampner with a hose? If so, where did you get that hose?
Ok. So after changing the fuel pump it ran perfect for a day. No issues. The next day it has a hard start issue. Finally starts and idles perfect. Press the accelerator and starts to stall until i press it to the floor.
Just for curiosity, I checked the fuel pressure again and it was holding at 22-24 PSI. Why would a new pump be bad after 2 days? Or is it something else? When I pressed the accelerator the pressure on the gauge didnt change. Held at 22-24 psi.
Again, if I slowly press the accelerator, it stalls but once the accelerator reaches halfway or to the floor it picks up and run wide open.
I have no fuel dampner it is not required. Do you have the check engine light on? Something is failing as it gets hot, Can you feel the fuel injectors all pulsating when this happens, Is the MAf sensor and the connectors clean? One other thing the voltaage on the TPS sensor needs to be at ,54 volts without the foot on the petal. You can simply check it with a voltmeter and stick a few pins into the upper 2 wires. That tells the computer where the throttle position is. You also need to check that it goes up to 4 volts very smooth as when mine went out I had numbers jumping up and down, screws up the computer.
I went thru a couple fuel pumps in my 85 due to too much rust in the tank. Cleaned out as much as i could with a magnet and havent had a problem since.
