I have a 1985 Corvette. My passenger side window is stuck a quarter of the way up and wont budge. window motor makes no noise. had it like that for a while and now when i move the power switch to move the window down the car wants to shut off. the revs go down as if it was going to die so i was wondering if anyone had an idea how to fix this issue or at least what the power switch has to do in relation to the engine to cause it to want to shut off.
Ok I'm no electrical guru and never had to mess with my 86's windows but let me give this a shot. It wants to shut off when you try to shut that window, so I'm betting it's not the switch and you got a short in the motor or it's seized and needs replaced. Still you could try to hot-wire the motor to be sure it's not just a bad switch. Just need two jumper wires a hot n ground unclip the motor n then look up what is what. While you got it apart inspect it for a anything broken or stuck, like the track. I'm sure there is multiple guides on here or youtube on how to replace the motor if that is the problem, GL
The old grease that they used on the windows and other door parts can harden up and make problems for you and your Corvette. I used a Hot Air Gun and heated it up and then removed it, it was a whole lot easier to wipe off the grease when it is warmed up.
Just remember to re-grease the parts with fresh grease so they continue to move freely for many years to come.
On the window motor be sure it has a GOOD Ground going to it. In a lot of cases of things not working can frequently be resolved by cleaning the ground connection.
I had a switch go bad in mine. Picked up a switch from one of the Corvette suppliers, took about an hour to open up the console and replace it. By the way both switches are identical so you could pull the other one and plug it into the questionable one to test it out.
If you pull apart the console, you'd just need a small jumper wire or you could use the other switch as mentioned they are the same. My luck I'd pull the door panel and it's the switch or vise versa LOL
I gotta do one of my own switches sometime, bought it awhile back but still kinda works if you hold it right.
