Wishing my 88 ECM could self learn and correct! Put the new MemCal in from the other guy (not TPIS) and the cold idle was rough but not surging like the old setup. It seemed to want to die unless I blipped the throttle. Once up to operating temp it seems to run pretty nice, idles nice too. I'm wondering if it does need to "learn" a bit with the new chip. I've got an 02 TA that I recently disconnected the negative and it ran like crap for a few minutes after startup but is fine now, maybe something similar?

Regarding the O2, picked up a replacement and went to put it in and it has two wires instead of one like the new unit. Guessing someone has already done the "hot" O2 setup on it? I couldn't tell before because the wires were wrapped. What year did they switch to the two wire O2?

OK, update - have received two Memcals from a guy I'm working with (TPIS is useless). He said log from first one showed it lean so he attempted to correct for that on the second one. It was an improvement but still has a cold idle that goes from stumbling to surging. Before I send him new logs I'm going to replace the O2, check the fuel pressure and initial timing. O2 sensor turned out to have 3 wires. Two brown ones connected to a red and black wire each, with a purple wire being spliced into what looks like the original type connector for my stock one wire O2. I'm guessing this is an adhoc setup for the electronically heated O2? I was expecting a two wire unit so a little thrown off by this three wire setup. Wondering if I should just tape the red/black wires off and go with a stock O2? Or should I try and find a three wire? If I go 3 wire anyone have an idea what type of O2 I need to ask for to match this 3 wire setup?

Edit-So looking this up it appears these O2 sensors are all three wire, a hot, a ground and one to the ECM. I plan on taking the one out of the car to the auto parts store today to see if they can find a match.
