I have this very weird issue with my 1994 vette. I was able to start it and it ran for a few seconds then died and will no longer crank. The starter is receiving 12v and the starter has been replaced but when you turn the key on the security light never turns on. Does anyone know why the car won’t crank and when it does why it just dies.
I have an 86.
its not the same engine, i know.
but i have had starter issues before.
1. The ignition switch is on the column about 10” lower than the key.
its bolted to the Column and has a rod going to it from the key.
once in a while i have to pull the steering wheel down to driving position and it starts.
otherwise, nothing
Mine does this every once in a while. The security light will be on as well. From my research, it is caused because the key is not being read.
My temporary fix is run a momentary switch between the red and purple wires in the relay located in the footwell for the igniton. It is located in the lower middle. It works perfect every time car will not start with the key.
You leave the car in the run position, press your momentary switch, and magic.
