Looking at the circuit diagram, I think all you have to do is disconnect both the solenoid and switch and instead place a jumper between pins A4 and C15 so that the ecm thinks the EGR diagnostic switch is closing when the EGR is activated.

I just installed my "piggyback" from TPIparts.net. It is like the OP's pics. In their instructions, they say to remove the blue cover, then plug the new board into the original chip/memcal, it (the original memcal) will be sideways. Then install it into the ecu. It's tight but will fit. No need to take the ecu apart. Just got back from a short, 20 mile drive. I unplugged the 9th injector and will be removing the EGR this weekend. Runs great.
