Ever had this happen on one of your cars?

I guess that explains the banging clunking sounds. I thought one or more of the shocks we’re just worn out.

I’ve never seen one just pop off the bushing before, at least not on any of my cars and trucks. Can’t get my mind around how this would have happened. Luckily there’s a brand new set of shocks sitting on the bench already!

When I had the Bilstein shocks I had the same thing happen!
Glad to know I wasn't the only one.

Nope, no washer was ever installed on mine. Although it would probably help prevent this from happening.

This is a good idea and once you see how the stud is manufactured it becomes obvious. A fender washer is pretty light, an iron washer might do better but any correct OD dimensioned would help.

An eBay search for 14105141 will get you several images, There is a couple on eBay that actually aren't correct 14105141! '84 - '87 would be 14044582.

The diameter of the stud is 15.6mm so a 14mm washer and increase the ID OR maybe a 5/8" flat washer could be ideal. The fabrication of the stud only 'isolates' the sleeve in the shock bushing.
