1700 hp...daym.....I thoughy my car was fast!!!!!!
ski_down_it....I see your point regarding high hp cars and their use at the drag strip.
Belive me, a properly built dana 44 is very hard to break. The people who did mine have confirmed it. Heck, they even told me that he dana 36 is good for 500 hp as long as the 60' times do not get under 2 seconds.
But to answer your question....have you seen any of the 4 lpe twin turbo zr1's? I believe a couple of them have auto tranny and pull some mean sub 1.6 60' times. THis is just off the top of my head.
Anything that is not properly built will break, not matter how strong it is. Heck, even is someboyd builds a detroit locker (is that whats its called???) rear wrong, it will break too! And thats one mean rear.
Yes if the rear is properly built it will hold up even with low 60' times. You will break u-joints before the rear. ]
Won't the halfshafts go before the u-joints?
I was told by a GM employee that the half shafts are designed to be the weak link, which is why we are told to paint lines on them so we can monitor any twisting.
Mojo, you would think, but I have to say in all the broken shafts that I have seen something else started it. Everyone one of them had marks or dings where someone had installed new u-joints and dented the shaft. Well by denting the shaft you give the shaft a place to start its twist at.
