Default Can You Identify This?

I’ve been through most of my 89 Corvette’s factory service manual but I cannot figure out what this part is? The top plastic is broken but here are a couple pictures. It’s at the back china wall & on the drivers side of the distributor, which mine is currently out (tape over hole).

Much appreciated!

Looks like a sending unit of some kind. Where was it screwed in at? Looks like a 4 pin connector plugged into the top. Do you have any 4 wire connectors that are in that area? I have a 93 and it doesn't have anything like that. I'm sure someone with an 89 will chime in some time.

That used to be your oil pressure sensor. Make sure you replace it with an AC Delco sensor with a BLACK top (the part that is cracked off yours).

I posted a thread on removal and install using a basin wrench I bought from Harbor Frieght. Only took 5 to 10 mins in and out.

Good luck. Ted

I need to replace mine eventually...so if it has 3 connections as pictured^^^is it the sending unit to the dash gauge and also the failed fuel pump relay back up???

There must be another oil pressure sending unit because I always had readings on my instrument panel. At least I thought they were real pressures I was reading on my dash! I’ll add that to the many things I’ve been replacing…. Slowly getting closer to being done!

That is for sure the OPS Sender/Fuel switch for an '89 and the connector in your snapshot I'd say 'was' wired correctly for it originally Red/Org/Tan. Modified in some fashion? Your FSM @8A-20-9 and 8A-82-1 would confirm that. In your 1st snapshot I believe even a portion of the part # can be seen, not on the 'hex' but on the cylinder. Look for maybe 1643535. There's several potential #'s that could be inked on the cylinder. I mentioned the oldest and potentially an original.

Yes, part # 1643535 is on the side. GM has discontinued it but available at Napa & Advanced Auto Parts locally. I looked up the FSM pages & it’s a schematic, which shows it. Kinda odd it’s not elsewhere, but at least I can get a replacement.

Your connector and wiring looked to be 'modified' in some fashion to maybe by-pass fuel switch or something. You need to sort that. From the appearance of your old sender it appears to have been an intentional 'event'. You've the FSM so it should be easy to sort and correct. You might shop a correct connector/terminals and fix it all at the same time. A correct GM pigtail would be a #12085499/ ACD PT121 or an after-market equivalent,. An empty connector and do your own terminations is likely possible also.

*** Your connector actually looks fine, with terminals and seals you could cleanup, reuse matching wire gauge etc for the install.

I looked over what I’m assuming is the connector & it looks good, nothing damaged anywhere. The only thing I can come up with for the way things are is; if the old sensor failed & someone mangled it trying to remove it after disconnecting the connector. I’m planning on buying a replacement sensor & installing it prior to the distributor & other in the way items.

In your 1st snapshot I saw only the TAN/ORG 'smaller gauge' wires. If you have all three RED/TAN/ORG then you're likely OK, the larger RED out of the conduit is for the distributor.
