94 LT1 Issues
I had a 96 CE LT4 car a few years back that I loved but I sold it to fund another project
First Issue is that it grinds going into first gear and also grinds into second if I try to shift it fast. I know the car from years ago and I replaced the master years ago before I owned it and it didn't fix the issue. I'm suspecting it needs a slave but wondering if there's a common issue I'm unaware of before I do that. Once its in 1st and the gate is open, it moves freely in and out
Second issue is the alternator. Car is stock, should I bother upgrading it from 140A or just replace it with a stock setup?
Last issue is the seats are trashed but everything I see online is a fortune. The cars not nice enough to warrant beautiful new seats. Is there a decent budget seat cover/foam combo or a cheap racing seat that fits well and works with the stock seatbelt?
Thanks for the help
hydraulic cylinders - notoriously junk in the aftermarket but it is all that is available. If they were replaced a few years back I wouldn’t be shocked if they need it again. That said, start with replacing the fluid. DOT3, I use a pneumatic brake bleeder which works really well but isn’t necessary. Remove the flywheel inspection cover and check for take fluid which would be indicative of a failed release cylinder. Replace the oil in the trans. 2.3 quarts needed. I use Amsoil synchromesh, which is also a forum favorite. YouTube or google “ranger method” to bleed the air, works pretty well.
Stock alternator is all you need. You can rebuild for a lot less than buying new. Especially if new means a box store where who knows the quality. Parts available online and it’s really pretty straightforward. Vids on YouTube.
Seats, comes down to what you want to spend. I felt my foam was in ok enough condition to reuse but I did add some here and there and puff it back out with steam. I got awesome new skins from Interior Innovations. Made in Pakistan but impeccable quality and fit. 4ish years on and they still look new. You can check out my thread here. Not too hard but a bit time intensive.
