Default check engine trouble

just when i thought my problems couldn’t get any worse my check engine light came on. i went to read the code by putting a paper clip on connecters A and B like i saw in a video and whenever i turned the key into the on position my coolant fan starts up. anyone know why this is happening and what it could be. it only happens when the paper clip is in the code reader.

If you jumped the correct pins one of the things that happens is the fans come on full blast. That is completely normal when reading codes.

If you have the heavy duty cooling system option, you will have two fans. One in front of the radiator and one on the engine side of the radiator. The one in front of the radiator will not come on when pinning A & B. It's not run by the ECM. It strictly only comes on at engine temperature of 238 degrees and it only uses a temperature switch (sensor) to turn on. The fan on the engine side only comes on when pinning A & B. Completely normal that it came on when you connected A & B,
