Default Handbrake

I drove my 96 to work the other day and as I lifted the parking brake handle to park the cable snapped. Upon further investigation I found that the plastic housing that the cable rests in broke where the drum at the end of the cable would sit(see below).

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, do any of you know of any way I can mend this?

Looking around, replacement handbrake handle assemblies are discontinued and the few used options I've found are pretty iffy looking and pricey. So I figured I'd turn to the wisdom of the online C4 community before I pull the trigger on nuying a used replacement handle.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, GM decided to make this particular part of the handbrake from plastic instead of metal. I tried some gorilla glue epoxy to glue the broken piece back on, but as I expected - it didn't hold.
