hmmmm that sounds a bit pricey but i have heard that Ed Wright does great work. can someone please explain dynotuning for me?
They put the car on a chassis dyno and then tune using a wide band oxygen sensor to dial in A/F ratio for max power.

Hmmm. Maybe i will just get the hotcam conversion done and worry about a custom tuning later if the new cam will work on a stock ECU/OBDII

That's what I am going to do.

Great any input from anybody else on prices or ecu/OBDII programing afterwords?
You can do it yourself for $550. That is what LT1/4 Edit costs. I should have done that in the beginning because I have spent more than that going back and forth with varouis changes in the last year. Shipping changes and waiting for your PCM to get back adds up too.

heres the question-
why the Lt4 hotcam?
I would go with a custom ground cam or at least the Xe series.
The hotcam is a good cam, but you can get better results with the same durration :)

try http://www.cmotorsports.com
they OWN! :smash:

that is a very good question and here is the answer. My LT4 has a small leak in the head gasket so i need to get that replaced. the stock one is obviously a bit bigger than it should be covering part of the valves and when i realized i might actually being picking up some power when i changed gaskets i might as well put the hotcam in there for now. i dont plan on touching the car for quite a while. and i want the motor to be exactly how GM orginaly intended for it to be (conspiracy theory) and since the hotcam is a gm part i have a better feeling about it being very reliable and while im in there i will probably replace the lifters, spring rockers, opti ect. hope that answers your question. YES i do have huge plans for this car in a couple years but for now i just want a reliable car to run around in

ericcer:
how can you do it yourself? what kind of programmer can you get to do that? and where? please give me more info on this

he is AMAZING
ask anyone on camaroz28.com

people are crazy about his tuning
combination motorsports flys him into vegas from PA to tune their cars.
he has the hotcam tuning NAILED
and he only charges $150 for OBDII and $100 for OBDI
I have his tuning

Go to http://www.carputing.com for info on LT1 Edit. It's not a programmer, it's a GUI software package and RS 232 hardware for communication with the PCM.

In addition to LT1 Edit, you need scan/datalogging software such as OBD-2, Autotap, etc for analysis. Unless you have a chassis dyno :D you need a cheap Pentium 133 or better laptop so you can drive around and log data.

Patience is everything. Go slow, understand your data, and make programming corrections. Join the LT1 Edit mailing list, etc, etc. The nice thing about the HOT Cam is it performs adequately with the stock programming allowing you to work at your own pace to optimize your tuning.

Keep in mind if you're not knowledgeable about tuning and don't have a lot of patience, you CAN blow up your engine if you rush into things and start making big changes in lots of tables.

And then there's all the little stuff it can do....fuel cutoff, correction for new gears, fan temps, CAGS!, disable specific diagnostic routines (i.e. install long tubes and you can disable the rear o2 sensors), change the ASR timing retard parameters, etc, etc.

that lt1 edit software sounds like exactly what i want but 2500 dollars seems really high. i wonder if there is another place that sells it cheaper? does pcmforless actually sell the software to do that kind of thing?

$2,500 is for use on an unlimited number of PCMs. For use on your PCM only (as many times as you'd like), it's $550

The only place to purchase the software is from Carputing
