Default Need advice

Team,

The problem area: Exhaust junction after cat and into the mid pipe...driver side. I removed the 2 lower nuts as part of my work on the engine mounts. Those things came out screaming all the way... Literally. I got one back on with anti seize on the stud, but the other one did not cooperate. It started to go on...I got a few threads in and then the nut came off. It felt as though the stud had broken off. It didn't break, but the tip of it seems to have sheared a bit. See attached pic.... Notice only the first couple of threads are damaged, but after that, the stud is in good shape.I tried to get the nut on, even if cross threaded, to no avail. How do I get the nut back on? Thanks,Ric

You might be able to repair that with a thread chaser. Take the nut into an auto parts/ Harbor Freight store and they should be able to set you up. Be careful when starting it onto the bolt that you have it square to the bolt. Not saying that it's a sure bet but I've saved a lot of bolts that way. It would be best if you can get the pipe off before trying the thread chaser as that will give you more room to work and a better chance of success.

Rethread with a die
or
replace the entire bolt

Advise replacement, its old and rusty and brittle probably. Knock it out or whatever it takes then you can use a beefy high quality bolt and nut

Just ordered this. The cool thing about it is that I can split it, place it on the good threads, and work my way backwards. It uses a 1" socket, which will clear.
