Superram installed, question about chip change for cold start.
I have a 1986 Vette that is using a 1987 chip. I just installed a Superram which elimintated the cold start injector. Does anyone know if I can install a 1989 chip into my car to improve my cold starts? The 1989 Vette's did not have a cold start injector but they still used the MAS. If the 1989 chip will work in my car I would like to use it for my baseline before I end up having it reprogrammed for the Superram.

Good question. I just sent my chip out to Jesse (ski_down_it) after my SuperRam install to have it re-programed. I incuded a list of mods to him which included the fact that I no longer have the 9th injector. Maybe he'll see this thread and chime in.

I believe you can use a modified '89 chip. (At least if you want to use the ARAP bin). Their is something that has to be tweaked to get the fans to work properly. Also you'll probably get the "D" overdrive light illuminate on the dash. My chip tuner used the ARAP as a starting point and that's what I've experienced.

I spoke with the guy at tunercat a while back, when I asked about newer defintions[its always good to give him an email/call every once in a while to see if you definitions have been updated]
Anyways he said you should be able to tune the 32b in the same respect as the 89's now. So that is what I did for you chuck. I have had really good results, when you look at the crank pulse width in the first few cells that are usually zero to .5
With my 89 it made the thing start much quicker.
Hope this helps out.
Also in regards to needing or not needing a chip. IMHO you will not be able to realize the potential of the setup without proper calibration of the system.
fast_vett89 just emailed me back, we did a chip and it was the only mod. The car stock went 13.8 through the 1/4. He took it out after the chip and realized a 13.5. So with the proper tune even a stocker IMHO has potential to gaid. A modded car definately will gain. The ECM is only as smart as the information its fed. Just as any computer. And contrary to what many believe a car at WOT does not make adjustments, it just run parameters its told. If those are off, then you will not run as good as you should.
Hope this answered some of your questions...

I'm using the 89 ARAP bin in my 86 (CSV is removed), works good. I have not changed anything exept some of the temparatures for turning the fans on/off. My car is mostly stock..
