Default L98 Rockers???

I was wondering if anyone had done some nice full roller rockers with 1.6R and uped to the 7/16" stud?? Which ones fit and which ones don't?? Can i do just the rockers and studs and run factory pushrods and guide plates???
i have an 89 L98 Auto. I ran 13.52 pretty much stock the other night....so i'm trying to shave a little more off. Any tips/tech stuff?? please...lol. thanks!

The factory guide plates are just there to hold the pushrods in during assembly, they don't really guide anything. You'll want to grab heat treated guideplates and pushrods if you do this also. Well... that is if you get non-self-aligning rockers.

You will also have to clearence the inside of your valve covers pretty well if you still have the stock ones as the 1.6 rockers will hit all over the place. I have Comp Cam Pro Magnum 1.6 Roller Rockers on my car, I should take a picture of the inside of the covers since the engine is a apart right now.

Jason,
On my 89' I had Comp Cams hi-tech ss rockers 1.6ratio. As Scorp mentioned, you must clearence the valve covers. You will notice drip tabs over the rocker postions in the covers, those must be removed. I've read of people breaking them off with pliers, however I used a dremel tool to grind them off. With some time they came off very nicely and it left the inside nice, clean, and flush.

I also went with some hardened guide plates and hardened pushrods. If your rockers have aligning disks at the valve roller, you will not need the guide plates. I only put the new push rods in when I rebuilt the motor, so they are not needed for the rocker upgrade. If you're in the motor and you want to, you can, but not needed.

My rockers used the larger 7/16 stud. Just rememebr to buy studs with 7/16 upper diam for your rockers. I like ARP or Pioneer, both of which make guide plates and studs.
http://www.arp-bolts.com or http://www.summitracing.com and search under "rocker studs" in the search field.

Good Luck,
Victor

Jason,
I forgot to mention that when your ready make sure to read up on how to adjust the rockers. There is no lash to be set on hyd. roller lifters, but there is a proper way to set them and a whole host of ways not to. I found out after that all the ways engine shops were telling me were wrong. There are a lot of wrong notions about how to set the pre-load on the lifter. Make a post when your ready and the forum will help you out.

Victor

ok, i have self aligning rockers (the dip tip). so this means i can just get the 7/16" ARP studs, and then 1.6R roller aluminum rockers that are good for center bolt style like the 300bux style ones and use my factory pushrods and guide plates?? I know how to adjust them. i've gone through a million ways on how to....ya know what the best is......valve covers OFF, and engine running!
back them off til you heard the loud clack...slowly tighten til it goes away.... 1/4 turn more. I think the engine running and valve covers off is the easiest and most accurate way.

ok, what's up with the valve cover clearance?? i wana use my factory L98 covers. will removing the oil baffles cause a problem of sucking up oil?? i also have an idea on how to up the height of the valve cover.... use maybe 2 rubber or cork gaskets. b/c the valve cover has a deep gasket groove. so that will give you at least a 1/32" ?? good idea??

Don't need to remove those, I just crushed them a little thinner with some pliers and it worked great. :)

i just got off the phone with TPIS and summit tech. 1-summit tech are idiots. 2-TPIS knows their poopie. on my L98 they have self aligning..... TPIS says to remove that style....go with steel pro mags, 7/16 1.6R, modify the valve covers like ya'll said. and go with a hardened guide plate and push rod. and get a stud kit. not bad. that's what i'm gonna do. Summit tech line said i had to remove the cylinder head and take it to a machine shop.....idiot. its a simple screw in part!!!!! lol.
