Default Track day

I have been building fast street cars and drag cars forever but have not built a real SCCA legal road race car. I have always liked road racing but the cost has always been too high for the race day events. Well last summer I bought Ardenwolf's (Andy) car and decided to turn it into a legal road race car. It has been a lot of work but last weekend we used it to get my sons novice competition license and it worked great. We ran the car for 190 minutes of racing which was about 270 miles, and it never missed a beat except it failed the power steering pump on the very first lap! It fun watching my son get his license and the car was very fast. We ran at Blackhawk farms and ran lap times of 1 minute 20 seconds which in my opinion was great!

A note about Blackhawk it is 1.95 mile track that has tight turns with a few short straights. On the longest straight he would just hit 120 MPH before he had to brake.

The on track picture was actually from last year at a track day event.

One other side note we were pitted next to another novice license driver who had an actual 1988 Corvette Challenge car and he was actually racing it. (I have never seen one in real life and now we actually watched him race it) (Seemed like a questionable decision to me since it was in mint condition with actual documentation)

Listed below are the stat's on the car and a few pictures.

-1988 Vette
-Changed from Auto to ZF6
-Added 3.07 dana 44
-Added fuel cell
-Rebuilt engine and now it is a 357CID
-Makes around 450 HP rough guess
-Holley HP EFI on E85
- Added full competition cage
-Added Fire suppression system
-Competition belts
-Car weighs 3000 LBS with driver in race trim
-Has C5 front brakes

I am sure there is more but this the basics. No real technical question just thought I would post this.

I don’t have kids, but I really love reading about these family activities involving Corvettes. Thanks for sharing.

Fun times! That is interesting about the documented challenge car. I thought of doing a wrap someday of one they have cool livery. I don't know if you will need the nasa classing stickers anymore. I really liked their events when they were going to Road America. They haven't been there in many years now.

I am terrible at taking pictures and i did not take one picture of the challenge car, should have since it was pitted right next door all weekend.

Taht's cool! I haven't been to Blackhawk Farms yet. Maybe one of these days.
