Hoping someone can help me a little bit with this new noise I have developed. I was driving down the interstate noticed a little vibration so I pulled over and could hear a squeal that I assumed was a wheel bearing in the drivers rear. I pulled the hub and what do ya know... No noise or sloppy bearing although I'm replacing it anyway I'm already here. So I thought maybe ujoints let go in the half shaft. Pulled it and yes it's definitely time for those. So while under the car rotating the wheel to get to the strap bolts for the ujoints. I heard the squeak... It's in the drive shaft and seems like it is the tail shaft of the transmission it's coming from. I've took a video so you can hear the sound. I feel zero play or movement in the drive shaft. Any help would be appreciated! Car has 59k miles currently
Please note, I don't have a noise/squeal coming from my car while driving it. Here is my story, and I hope it helps.
On my 1995 base convertible, I recently rebuild the majority of my suspension (front and rear). I didn't do the batwing bushing, the front inner/outer tie rod ends, and rack/pinion. However, I did do all the other bushings, brakes, brake hoses, ball joints, U-Joints, and such. I also removed my transmission tail section and replaced the bushing, seal, and housing O-ring. I also completed a transmission pan gasket with fluid change. After I completed everything and while the vehicle was up in the air, I noticed the same kind of noise coming from the rear of the transmission if I rotated either rear wheel in the forward direction. I had my wife rotate the wheel while I listened with an auto stethoscope. My noise was coming from the transmission. I decided to run the vehicle while I had it up in the air on my lift. Using the car to run the vehicle forward and reverse, I could not hear any noise with or without my stethoscope. I decided to call it good. Note: If you go too fast and/or for too long while running the vehicle on the lift, you may confuse the traction control computer, and it will give you errors. Any errors should go away once to return to normal driving.
