I know there is a lot of info out there on headlight hoods not functioning properly but looking for help with this strange issue. First of all I should note that I had a headlight issue to start with, right headlight on low beam was brighter than left headlight. We found a ground issue with that. I already had a right hood issue and was waiting for a new motor to come in from JEGS. It was working but not well. We buttoned everything up after fixing headlight issue, got the new motor but the hood did not open. If it's partially open and I connect the harness connectors it closes. I took the green/white, white/black from one the hood motor relay and plugged it into the other relay, it opens the hood. I take the blk/yl/red from the functioning relay and move that to the green/white, white/black relay and it works. All my voltages on all the connectors on both relays look to be identical and ohm out the same as well. Very confusing and wondering if we did something ground related when we fixed the right headlight originally but I can't see that connection on the schematic. Anyone seen anything like this before? Any tips or am I missing something? Thanks!
GJGVette Welcome to the forum! The title to your thread is misleading. After reading your post, you are having trouble with the headlight operation, not the hood. There are several good U tube videos covering the removal and installation of the C4 headlights as well some on rebuilding the headlight motors. The fix is pretty simple. I can't give you first hand advice. The headlights on my 91 are one of the few things that don't need attention. There are plenty of guys on here that have been there done that, so you should get lots of help. I don't know if the moderators can change the title, but referencing the headlight instead the hood should get the answers you need. Good luck..
Hey there Slammin,
Yes, I could see where my title may have been misleading. I've watched a bunch of videos, had the headlight / motor assembly in and out of the car probably 8 times one Saturday so I could probably do it in my sleep now, LOL. I have everything together correctly but think I have a ground or voltage issue even thought it seems everything meters out the same from the connector to the side that is working compared to the one that is not. I do have a buddy that's a mechanic and pretty good with electrical issues helping me but he has a young daughter that he has to watch often so it's not so easy to get him over. I will take your advice and keep searching in the meantime and appreciate your help! Thanks!
Either your cable is broken or stretched, or the latch is frozen (??)
This is a photo of the hood latch. All you need to do is buy or fashion an emergency hood tool that moves the latch which unlocks the hood. The latch is the flat metal piece holding the cable. Move the latch up toward the open space.

Hi Don, thanks for the reply and sorry for the delayed response. My title of my trouble was a bit misleading, my trouble was actually with the headlight not opening. Long story short, after installing a new headlight motor I found that I had no movement at all. Started swapping some connectors around at the relays and found that I have an intermittent wiring problem around the fusible links or where the wiring connects to the C100 wiring block on the firewall. Everything is working well now, thanks for the response!
Hello GJGVette, you say "intermittent wiring problem" some where. Just to let you know the insulation on most all of the wiring harnesses on my C4 have all but vanished at the relay connector. I first suspected that rats/mice had chewed everything up but now I suspect that it was engine heat. It won't hurt to inspect the cables to all of your relays etc.
Good luck.
