Hey this is my first time ever posting on a forum, usually I just read other forums and see if I can find solutions to my problems. It has worked up until now. I have an early model 1986 corvette project car I've been working on restoring for almost 2 years. I've fixed every engine code except for one. Code 36, "MAF burn-off circuit." The description of my Hanyes repair manual says to "check the MAF sensor, power relay, and burn-off relay electrical connections, Replace the MAF burn-off relay." I've tested all the relays behind my battery and replaced the burn-off relay. I've also replaced my mass airflow sensor. I then took it to a shop where they kept the car for 2 weeks and said they have no idea. The shop thinks it's my ECM but it's gonna be painful to source an ECM for it. I've pulled my ECM out and the board is clean, the PROM looks good, I don't notice any heat damage or crack. This car runs completely fine and has no issues, but I cannot pass smog in Californa until I fix that SES light.
Does anyone have any idea what I could try to fix this issue or find the problem?
Seth,
I suggest a search here on the forum.............This topic has been beat to death.
Another suggestion, Burn the Haynes and get a factory service manual. Easily found on ebay.
Did you replace both relays or just one? If you replace the MAF itself you should also replace both relays.
If both are good and the MAF is replaced, its likely in wiring or the ECM. The Helm FSM (use that instead of the Haynes) will basically say that in the Code 36 procedure.
