I am going to have my mechanic flush my trans. Ideally i think I'd like to use synthetic but I'm going to need to but in excess of 24 quarts in oder to flush it thoroughly.
Any input would be apreciated.
mobil 1 makes a synthetic automatic transmission fluid. B&M trickshift is a decent fluid, Royal Purple, Amsoil, etc... Personally I would go with a synthetic since transmission failure is usually do to degredation of the fluid, which ruins the clutchpaks. Synthetics usually have a higher resilience to temperature, and high temp is what causes the failures.
When is the recommended change for an Automatic? I have a 96 with 50k.
I have never done that before so i would appreciate some instructions. (I did change it on my saturn, but this is a vette)
Jcaire - I agree. I have been using B&M Trickshift (non-synthetic) since it was rebuilt two years ago. The last time my mechanic looked at it he said the fluid looked a little burnt. My trans is getting funky (sloppy shifts, occaisional noise like going over rumble strips) This is like a last ditch effort on putting off at least temporarily another trans rebuild/
Swoosh - I don't know, I have not looked in manual to check ther service intervals. I have about 35k miles on the rebuilt trans.
redline, stuff has killer film strength and i've used it in manuals that run on ATF. stuff shifts much smoother and gets my #1 vote. flush it with 99 cent ATF and fill with redline.
