Got a painless performance harness for my ‘95. Old one is ruined and removed. I’m new to this whole thing. The instructions for the harness say to position the computer and sensors in their intended positions before drilling a hole in the firewall for the engine group and tail section of it to fit through. My question is where do I put the computer at and how do I mount it there? Since it seems it doesn’t go in its original place with this harness and I don’t see where it’s “intended” to go. It is also highlighted in the booklet that “THIS HARNESS WILL NOT WORK WITH A FACTORY CORVETTE ECM. Communication and VATS error will occur.” What ecm would I use instead and where would I get it? Finally, since this harness obviously differs from the stock one, what all is missing? I don’t see anything for headlights and such. Thanks for any help Just an image for the harness number if it’s needed
There's a second under-hood harness for lights etc.
Do you have the FSM (Factory/Field Service Manual)?
That manual is a 27 page document from Painless. I did NOT read it but there should certainly be enough there to sort your needs. If you don't have the FSM you'll need it.

yeah the picture I added is the manual but it doesn’t say where/how to mount the computer (I think it’s just up to the person installing but idk how to do that) or where the drill hole goes (up to you again I would think). They give you parts numbers for ecm’s but I’m not sure if it’s the one I have to get. (16181333 is the one that’s for a corvette). I’m also assuming you have the harness based on your response)
You were told two months ago just to find a replacement Vette harness and to not use the painless harness for this exact reason.
Having trouble doing so and I’m stuck with this one on a boring weekend anyway. If i can get the answer for it and get the car going with all new wires that’d be great.
You need to buy a FSM and learn how to wire and need to buy terminals, pins and proper tools along with GXL wire.
You will need to run the wires necessary from the PCM through the C100 connector at the firewall. You will also need to recreate your AC wiring as well, since that is all contained with the engine harness.
I strongly suggest you abandon this harness and find a good used one. Don’t know you are details, but there are at least ten on eBay in different configurations.

it’s nice to know some things to look into for the future. Speaking of A/C, that was what stopped me from getting a harness from Dino’s salvage. They’re literally 10 minutes away from me and only had 1 harness for me, but the issue was that the ac was buttons instead of a slider (Their words, not mine. I’m not educated enough to argue or question them). Is changing the anc out so the harness would work on my car a complex issue or a simple swapping of parts/ some wire cutting?
Yes an OE engine harness (1995) is very dependent upon A4 or M6 transmission and C68 A/C (Auto) or C60 A/C (Manual). The other under-hood harness is the same for either

So do you need a manual or automatic trans harness with no electronic AC?
I’ll shoot my shot on it soon then, just a bit short of funds on that right now after those Christmas deals
Place a WTB here on the CF, mention your location and see what you might find. The part # mentioned 12130371 is correct and there might be a tag wrapped on your harness with just the 0371 very near the C100 connector. You never mention whether you do or don't have the FSM? You do OR you don't? If you also need the forward lamp harness place an ad for both. If a person has 1 they're very likely to have both.

I got confused on what an FSM was as it was my first time hearing about it. Don’t have one though. I’ll look into making a post about looking for a harness here when i actually have enough money for a decent offer lol
Honestly reading these, you are way over your head in trying to make an aftermarket harness work in your Vette. There are pass throughs for your CCM and it will not be communicating with that. You could make your engine run but you would have no gauges for example. There are a ton of used parts dealers, just start calling them and get on Ebay as well. You will find a 95 harness, not sure what is ruined about yours but unless it burned down you could fix it.
He could contact Lectric Limited and they could restore the harness. I am sure it would be somewhat expensive but if he can't fix they could. I think it would be easier for him to figure out how to release connectors and get a set of connector crimps and do this himself one wire at a time. He could even get all the correct color wire from Ballanger motorsports if he wanted to.
The Painless harness was meant to be used with aftermarket ECUs like a Holley Terminator. I have a friend doing a restomod 72 C3 and he's putting an LS3 in it and used a Painless setup, I believe. But as has been mentioned, without the stock PCM you have to sort out having the aftermarket ECU communicate to the CCM or you won't have a lot of dash functions. The Painless kit isn't intended to replace the factory harness in cases where the factory harness is damaged - it's intended to adapt modern aftermarket controls to an older chassis. It's basically not what you want at all.
