better cooling?
I went through major overheating problems last summer here in Phoenix. I put in a 160 deg T-stat (useless in hot weather because it flows the same amount as a 180, only it opens 20 deg sooner)
I removed the top radiator/condenser shroud and cleaned out the accumulated debris. Doing this certainly can't hurt, but still didn't solve the problem.
I ordered the small auxilary (pusher) fan from MAD like the Z51 cars came with. This helped somewhat.
I had my chip programmed to turn on the main fan at 200 deg instead of 225 or whatever it was before. You can also put a temp sensor in the cyl head and run the fan relay off of it rather than the ECM. If you have the aux fan kit mentioned above, it comes with its own 200 deg sensor, you can tap into it also. This helped some too, but I was still overheating.
What REALLY fixed the problem once and for all was putting in a larger radiator. I went with a Ron Davis because that is what I had in my race car and it worked well on the track. No disappointments when I put it into my street car, either. :yesnod:
When you see the stock radiator and the Ron Davis side by side the stock radiator is a joke. Getting more cooling capacity into these cars is the only thing that seemed to work for me. Also, make sure your lower valance is intact, especially the one right below the radiator inlet.
