Re: Differences Between MAF & MAP Air Cleaner Setup = ??? (jmrl98)
I bet he is having problems getting the 165 ecm to work well with a built up 383. I have had a problem with a lean miss on tip-in and several chip burnings havn't been able to solve it so I'm now converting to the 727 ecm MAP setup because "experts" have said they can solve this problem.
As for the original question, wasn't there a change made somewhere early '90 when they tipped the radiator back at a angle and came out with a different air cleaner housing to compensate for the angle? To get rid of your MAF you just need to fabricate a 3.5 inch tube to insert in place.

True dat, jmrl98. They actually went back to MAF on the later LT1's using a more reliable MAF unit that works on slightly different principles.

You're pretty much right about the 165 MAF tuning. It would also be nice to not have to worry about MAF failures. I'm not doing the 730 swap, just the 808 conversion to the 165.
So the aircleaner housing changed to fit the new radiator in '90?
Re: Differences Between MAF & MAP Air Cleaner Setup = ??? (jmr302)
The air cleaner housing on '90 & '91 MAP L98s was different from that on prior MAF L98s.
However if you can get the '90/'91 bellows to fit between the TB and air filter intake you should have no air filter housing problems after the conversion.
