I've recently done some work on my 88, fixing a code 33 and discovering that I had a bad ECM. I have replaced the MAF,TPS,IAC sensors, replaced the Throttle Body with a 52mm, as well as some vacuum hoses and the ECM.
I had it running pretty good except that it wants to stall while under 120 degr. in park and under 140 in drive or reverse. I've got the LT4 hotcam in with 1.6 roller rockers, so maybe it's just the nature of the beast? But, while it's warming up the check engine light will flicker very rapidly and at the same time the "shift up for better fuel econ" will light up and go out on the tach. This lasts until it warms up, or if I crank it up while it's already hot it will last for about 2 minutes. If I drive like this the engine revs. fast but with much less torque and throttle response.
Today I pulled the codes and got a 42 and 51. 42 is bad Elec. Spark Control and 51 is bad mem cal.
Any advice would be appreciated. I've never posted before, I hope this comes out alright...
Re: Engine codes equal 666, any advice? (BadDriver)
First off-welcome to the forum!
Does it have a custom prom? Stock prom? Make sure it's seated in tightly first. On the esc (spark control); if it is taking out too much timing it would make sense with the conditions you describe. I'd go ahead and replace it.
Also-is this a new problem after mods?
Re: Engine codes equal 666, any advice? (C490Vette)
The prom that was in there was made custom for the hotcam, I switched it out with the stock chip last night(after making sure it was seated) and that has, for the time being fixed that problem. Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on a new custom chip? Also a "dashboard Jesus" might help too, any good deals online?
I found an oil leak also. :banghead: Looks like more work ahead.
Re: Engine codes equal 666, any advice? (BadDriver)
honestly sounds like the chip had a loose contact or wasn't properly burned. you can send ed wright your factory chip and have a program burned on to it for $350. your other option is finding a guy on the forum to do your combo. Ed is a good guy and stands behind his work, if there's a problem he fixes it. if you go this way i'd send your factory prom in or your aftermarket, just a memcal for him to blank out and burn. the piggy backs have always gave me connection problems
