In my "91" I have the bose gold and wanted to upgrade the head unit I was wondering besides the harness and the mounting kit what else do I need, and do I have to bypass the bose?????
All i know is that on my 90 I added a new head unit and 6 months later all but one speaker was dead. I think you have to bypass the individual speaker amps or use aftermarket speakers all together. Dont take my word for it because my stereo still doesnt work. I havent had it fixed yet. Thats just what I have been told as to why my speakers dont work. Good Luck!
I just replaced the head unit and the speakers. Bose speakers don't mix well with aftermarket head units because of the internal amp thing, I think. Someone else out there might know more about mixing the two.
I had the stereo reconditioned by United Radio for $185 about a year ago. They fixed the CD player, replaced the bands for the cassette player, and replaced the CD door (and the lights). I also had to get new amps for the speakers (they weren't cheap). It sounds good for a stock radio, but not as good as the newer stock radios.
Replace speakers or get a converter. The converter is $50+ and you will have engine noise. If you like the sound of 10 year old $5 paper speakers with $10 radioshack kit amps, keep the bose. This is the sound quality and equipment quality equivalent of the bose stuff. Otherwise replace with real speakers and listen to the sound improvement.
