When I purchased my 87 in December, the left headlight motor needed a rebuild. I just got it back today from Corvette Central and installed it. It works great! However, when the headlights are on, the right motor makes a clicking sound (like some switch maybe) about every 5 seconds. Also, the right side is slower to go up or down than the newly rebuilt left side. Any ideas of what might cause this? Am I facing another agonizing month of not having a headlight?

Re: Headlight Motor Noise (87Vert)
I just rebuilt my own motor yesterday. When I put it back together it made the same clicking sound every 5 seconds, except mine was when lights were off. Disassembled everything again :mad and realized that I did not have the large spring on the end of the motor shaft located in the proper slot. This was causing the motor to not shut off when the door closed. It was binding the gear trying to turn it further. Repositioned spring and everything works fine now. If you have a couple of hours spare time, you might want to check this out before you send it back.

Re: Headlight Motor Noise (87Vert)
Yes. The spring goes around the motor shaft about 3/4" from the manual operation ****, inside the case. You would think Corvette Central would know how to re-assemble the motor. But to be honest, I don't know exactly what I did differently the second time I tore into mine. I took the spring out, fooled around with it, and put it back in the only way it looked like it would do something. The reason I thought it was the spring is because the clicking is the motor not shutting off when it should. The spring positions the motor shaft inside the motor housing. As the shaft slides back and forth in the housing, it causes two different contacts to open and close. One contact opens the door, the other closes it. Since the contact wasn't disconnecting at the proper position, it had to be the locating spring.
Thanks. THis helps. BTW, the motor that is clicking is not the one that Corvette Central rebuilt. Theirs works fine. I think I can use the information you gave me and try to fix this problem on my bad motor.
