Default Open this FLIPPIN' HATCH!!!

I have recently purchased a '87 Vette. I cannot get the back hatch to open. Someone has already done a mod to the wire that is the back up release but I can still not get it to pop open. I will gladly replace it, if I can get into it. Please give me any ideas before I lose my mind. Tomorrow I am going to do a headlight upgrade. I will post pics.

Have someone push down on the glass while you pull the release.

Tried that, but didn't work. I did install the headlights though. Maybe I can flick the hatch with a flathead screwdriver.

There is an emergency pull cable on the latch, dig around back by the latch and pull the cable to pop the hatch open.

Slide your hand under the cargo shade on the passenger side and you'll find the release cable. Use vice grips if you need to pull the cable. You will not be able to release the latch with a screw driver.

I ended up replacing my hatch release solenoid because the coil was bad. I took it apart first hoping it was a bad ground and I could fix it. I hope these photos help show the release and give you an idea of what you're up against.

Someone had already put a ring on that release cable. I've pulled and pulled and pulled it. Even the release cable won't work.

Hoping this ring is to the cable UNDER the shade, not the incorrect item the pic is pointing too.

Did you pull to the RIGHT (PASSENGER) SIDE of the car? Don't pull to the front.

The arrow is pointing to the attachment point of his extended cable with the loop. Not to the Targa top latch.

For those of us that already know what it's referring to.
For someone clueless as to what they're looking for, misleading.
