Default Digital Dash Repair

Hello,
I recently rebuilt my digital dash from the 1984 vette when I plugged it back in to the car and connected the negative battery terminal the head lights illuminated with the hood open and I could hear the lights trying to aggressively open. I unplugged the dash again, connected negative terminal and the same thing happened. I stopped trying to prevent further damage.

Can anyone point me in a direction on this?

Thanks for your time!

Every time i reconnect my battery, the headlight motors make noise. They don't deploy, so I figure it is just a check that they do to bring them down when power is applied.

What position is the headlight switch in? If it is pulled out, of course, they're going to light up.

I tried both positions on the lights lever, also the key is in the off position, I have never heard noise coming from the headlights and the lights lit up!

While removing components of the dash I think I may have pulled the headlight lever out too far while removing the **** and retaining clip.

I was thinking of checking the headlight switch next....

Any thoughts on my theory!??
