Can anyone supply me with information or a place where I can find information on replacing by Bose Speakers with aftermarket speakers. I have some experience with car stereos but not speakers in Corvettes. I know there are amps on the Bose speakers. I just need to know how to remove/bypass the amps and connect the new speakers. Thanx for the help!
If you still have the Bose system (and just changing the speakers)you'll have to use the amps or get an adaptor$$. If you already have an aftermarket stereo you just remove the whole amp and cut the two wires and put them to the new speakers.Go on to installdoctor.com and you'll find the gm wiring diagram. If you can't get it Email me and I'll e mail it to you.
cutting the wires will damage your original harness. the original wires are also old... fresh quality wire will help.
:withstupid: just run new wires straight off the new head unit off the new wiring harness. this way you can, as mentioned, have newer wires, and also better quality and/or higher gauge wires that will yield better sound. :D
Ok, I'd like to try to rewire it but how in the heck can i run new wires to the front and back without them being visible? Is there some kind of trick to get the wires through the car nice and hidden? Any help would be great. Thanx!!

Re: Stereo Rewire (C490Vette)
I assume since you're asking about this you care about the car.
Do it right the first time, do it yourself. Car stereo is probably one of the easiest things to do.
On my system, I have a head unit and a full DIN EQ up in front. I have the amp and the brain for the EQ mounted in the passenger side cubby hole. Running the wires to and from this location is simple and it is hidden. Use a 6.5 speaker in the rear as it is a direct fit for the existing hole. I would reuse the existing front speaker pod using a 4" component system.
Instal running wires and cables. I have 2 cables connecting most of my gear. 1 cable going from the headunit to the brain of the EQ and the other going from the brain of the EQ to the display piece. Those are run down the passenger side of the door rail. This piece is easy to remove and install as you will have to remove it for access to the speakers. Then use a wire loom or coat hanger to pull the wires to the dash opening. Stringing wire to the rear speakers is just as easy.
I would highly suggest adding a amp to the system and not use deck power, as well as using quality speakers. These are the two places not to scrimp in a stereo. Oh and no kit is required to doing a two DIN set up, and the only cutting involved is the support bracket in the back of the dash for the oold bose headunit.
