Hiya,

I'm the OP, and I got the info I need. To reiterate, to keep the OEM stock bellhousing, I need to run a 153 tooth flywheel and 10.5" clutch on the big block into C4 swap.

Now with that established, we can take this thread anywhere you guys would like. Let's talk big block C4 swaps!

Along that line, there's a thread in the C4 ZR1 section regarding halfshaft differences/improvements in later C4 production to deal with the higher stress of the LT5.

No A-B comparison of two sectioned shafts yet, but perhaps in the future.

Edit: Are the guys installing big blocks able to do it with the stock plastic brake booster, or swapping in the smaller diameter '84 steel unit? Or an aftermarket booster? I initially wanted to put one of those plastic boosters in my '69, but it wouldn't clear the valve cover. The '84 booster did the trick on my BB application.

That is really interesting on the half shafts. Next time I go to the machine shop I will have him do a sonic check on each shaft for the wall thickness. I have 85 and 87 half shafts and of course my 95. I never weighed them to see if there was a difference. I think I will look for chrome molly shafts and driveshaft to replace the aluminum pieces in my 95. I lost my C10 aluminum driveshaft last summer that was supposed to be good for 900HP. It was really old and I had 6 sheets of 1/2' cement board in the back. My buddy asked me "what did you hit?" I told him "second gear". Over 6 inches of driveshaft disappeared, I think it went into low orbit. I would be really interested in what failures people see the most in a well maintained drive-train.

Speaking of driveshafts/half shafts, I will have to be careful. This same engine, when in my Blazer, has already eaten a driveshaft. On a full throttle shift to second at 6500 rpms, (Turbo 350 trans w/shift kit), it literally spit the Blazer driveshaft out on the ground. No, it didn't tear worn u-joint cups apart, it broke the (solid) trunnion right in two!

Regarding the brakes, I am considering going to hydro-boost.

It will be a fun car!
