So I have a 94 Base, earlier this year it started randomly shutting off and wouldn’t start after sitting for a few hours. Or it would start directly after but as soon as i put it in gear it would stall. I assumed my TC was locking up causing the engine to stall as i still had complete power to the car, my radio does shut off and turn back on when this happens. I was having a ton of transmission issues anyways so i got it rebuilt only for it to keep doing the same thing. checked my fuel pressure (39psi at idle) then my fuel pressure starting dropping, and then the car would stall. Assumed it was the fuel pump so i replaced it and the sock. only for it to continue to do the same thing. Also it will crank with starting fluid. At this point im very lost and am wondering if anyone has any ideas
Please explain in more detail the pressure dropping. You said 39PSI at idle then "while still running?" it drops and the car stalls. What happens when you try to start back right away? With the key on does it prime and pressure build up? How long does it stay up after turning off? Does your pressure regulator vacuum line smell like gas? Pumps have been bad out of the box. Dan
(Please explain in more detail the pressure dropping.) When i go to crank it, it just cranks, its acting like it’s not firing (opti, plugs and wires) are relatively new. It will NOT prime after it stalls. I will need to check pressure again to see if it’s building pressure after it stalls.

when I prime my fuel pump I get 20 psi, I started it shoots up to 40 and then after it stalls, when I turn my key to prime it it instantly goes to 40 and won’t start just turns over

If after changing the fuel pump pressure continues to be low you will have to do a voltage drop check on both the positive and negative side of the fuel pump circuit.

It dropped once and caused the car to stall, i just did the filter and it shut off without pressure dropping so now im confused.
