Well, the saga continues....it works, it doesn't work, it works, etc..
The car had been setting for about a month. I went to crank it. The display came on. The engine almost cranked. I turned the key off/on to recycle the fuel pump. When I turned the key on to crank it....no display. The engine cranked, but no display. Turned it off. I recranked the engine, still no display. I disconnected the battery, let it sit overnight. Reconnected the battery, turned the key on...display working. Cranked engine, display working. Any explanation? Did I "reset" the LCD by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery? Why did it quit when I quickly recycled the key on/off/on?
Thanks for the reply. Could be a loose connection. But why would it "reconnect " when I disconnected/reconnect the battery?
Correlation doesn't imply causation. The loose connection doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the battery being connected.
I would start by checking all connections to the dash, then checking the wiring harness. If that all looks good, the problem might be inside the cluster itself.
If you're electronically inclined, buy the wiring harness from Batee so you can do bench testing. It comes with a power supply.
There's a connector between the two PCBs which corrodes, gets hot, and makes a lousy connection between the two boards. Mine also developed a bad solder joint between the two, so I touched that up with my soldering iron.
