The Dana 36 was taken out for new gears. While it was out, we removed the perch and retainer for the transverse leaf spring, since we are running coil overs. Trying to make the assembly look simpler.
We traced the rounded contour out to the ends by milling, and then made an angular cut to remove the bolt holes.
Have a low mileage Dana 44 with 3.33 gears (1989), and a Dana 36 with 3.07.
The 44 was scheduled to go into the car, but as we mounted the differential casing to the frame with the 36, it would involve some modification to install the 44. Having painted the frame, couldn't step up to modifying it already. :)
The 44 are indeed nice rear ends. Used on Studebakers solid axle housings in the 50's. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Who would have thought todays premier sports car would be using it?
