Scorp...I agree, the welded area looks acceptable, nice work and kudos to your dad.
Now....you going to weld the pits and machine them too? The pits are definitely stress risers, or points that will start cracks in the aluminum. You do not want to ignore them.
I don't know about street use but every head my race team tried to have repaired....Failed....Good Luck...Hope you fair better than we have........ :cheers:
Race engines, especially stock car engines, see much higher heat flux in the heads than street applications. For a street head, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

are those pits really much of an issue? i have nicked up the quench area in one of my heads from a piston flying apart. just basically smoothed it & deceked it & have ran it for 10k miles so far. no real issues on 11:1 compression other than the darn guides leaking :lol:
