Shop replaced my distributor (2,000 mi away). Apparently they didn’t tighten the rotor properly, car died. I replaced the coil pack, rotor and cap. Still no spark.
I’m having difficulty finding sufficient troubleshooting info. Should I replace the electronics module, ? could have been damaged. Feel a little silly but never dealt with anything like this.
Ok from the top you had a car that ran, rotor got loose car stopped.
You installed new cap, rotor and some parts, no spark but when you install the cap did you bring over the ground bridge under coil
Agent 86, I recognize you from twenty years ago when I built this thing. Unfortunately all my posts from back then are gone. The things you mentioned, all good.
Anyway thank you both for your replies. Of course life happened as soon as I posted, just getting back to this.
So it was the electronics module..just seems odd to me that this component is not mentioned anywhere I found trying to track the issue down. At any rate she fired right up but all kinds of ugly problems under load, probably still unkn electrical issues from mice chewing wiring under dash.
If anyone knows an electrical wizard in the San Antonio area I sure need one. I’m new to the area, but I couldn’t find anyone in Oregon in the Portland area.

I don't consider myself a wizard but I have had my 86 for over 20 years and replaced almost everything on it. I live in the Converse area. I would be happy to meet you for coffee and help if I can. Send me a PM and we can exchange info.

Well it was indeed my good fortune to receive this offer! RWDsmoke is nearby where I just moved to and so generously came to assist with electrical issues originally from mouse and repair shop damage. He came to assist me on several different occasions trying to track down various issues as they seemed come up one after another.
In the end he suggested changing the ignition system to the later small cap style. This was fantastic for me because with the Super Ram I had just a spaghetti mess with my plug wires. Now they’ll be infinitely better and easy to route without being up against the intake all the time looking to arc.
As he stated he has an 86 (96 front and rear I think) that he has pretty much rebuilt from the ground up. It’s beautiful under the hood with quite a motor and a gorgeous black paint job that he did as well. Great to meet and become friends with another enthusiast!
My car was not drivable, now it is once again thankfully and I owe it all to RDWsmoke! He certainly saved me untold cost and frustration trying to find someone to come up with a working solution.
