Just bought a 1988 c4 and had a idle issue, i replaced the distributor rotor and cap and the spark plugs and the check engine light went off but the car still idles weird (500rpm -700rpm) and sounds like it wants to die out. When driving it feels normal but when i push the gas past a quarter way it bogs and cuts power completely and stalls out. Anyone have any clue what could be a issue???
When was the last fuel filter change? Or fuel pump? They tend to give a little notice before completely quitting out
Fuel pump was replaced when i bought the car but fuel filter age is unknown. The car revs and idles well now i cleaned a couple sensors but it still bogs when driving and proceeds to stall out.
Check this out. Solved my idle issues on my 1988. Someone messed with the minimum idle speed screw (thinking it was just an idle screw ???) and the TPS (throttle position sensor) was not measuring proper voltages. I replaced both the TPS and the IACV after cleaning the throttle body. Idled better, started better, and AC cycling was better. Start by checking the TPS; voltage at idle, then smooth increase up to full throttle. If I remember correctly, L98 needs a minimum of 4.5V at full throttle to invoke power enrichment mode. I used an OBD1 scanner to set minimum idle speed and double checked with a handheld digital tachometer.
