Default Thermostat question

for those who read my question about the abrupt violent overheating, which, thanks to folks on this forum, is no longer happening. Today, went out for a 122 mile drive with a friend. Ambient temps -/+45 degrees, 5,000-8,500 feel altitude. i'm running a Mishimoto 160' thermostat. My engine temps were a near constant 173 degrees. So, my question is, i'm wondering if i should go back to a 180' thermostat? Part of me is saying, wait for summer weather, when we have lots of 90-100 degree days and see what temps are running then. Thanks in advance, i look forward to having another learning experience!

I don't think there's anything wrong with leaving that 160 stat in there for now and just seeing where things go as it gets warmer. Once it does get warm, and if you're still happy with the temps you're running, I think you'd probably be alright!

The thermostat should be left alone if it is running cool

@matmondro thanks for your reply. it fially went through my skull that temp rating n thermostat has nothng to do with what operating temp an engie runs at after fully warmed up.
