Default Fuel Pump

Hello all, recently purchased a new to me 1991 convertible. Making a list of things to perform as "maintenance" before any "upgrades." I'm planning on spark plugs, filters and fluids, basic hub bearing and suspension checks (touchy-feely type to see what's loose) and I got to wondering about the fuel pump. Car is 34 years old; I don't currently have maintenance records for it (PO may come through with those, we'll see) so it may be the original pump. I would like to eventually have ~350 ish at the drivers, what fuel pump should I get? I wouldn't consider a new pump currently, as it drives fine, but at some point I plan to change it for sheer peace of mind, and that seems the time to upgrade, if required.

I know quite a bit has to be upgraded for my stated power goal, not the least of which being a D44 swap, maybe no flex bars, plenty of debate on other stuff, which is why, in this thread, I'm only asking about the fuel pump.

From previous projects I have a New In Box (NIB) Walbro 255, if I can find it (moved recently) .

Is that too much for the current, likely tired, stock engine? Will the factory regulator and plumbing keep the pressure in spec? Or am I overthinking this?

For those that would suggest an intro, I've already done a second, more current one (previous was few years ago).

The Walbro 255 is the go to pump for most people. It works for a stock motor or a 400hp LS. Just be careful where you get it. There are a lot of counterfeit Walbro pumps out there. Avoid Amazon or eBay. Get it factory direct or a reputable vender like Summit Racing or Racetronix.

If it isn't broke don't fix it. Being you don't have maintenance records I'd just let it be. The one on my 95 started to get a whinning sound and although still working fine used that problem to feel confident it was time. The pump is easy to replace and if it has no indications of being a problem let it be.

Thank you. Yes, from what I remember, the only thing more frequently couterfeited as a speed part is the old MSD 6A.

Valid point, I'm not in a hurry, just want to have the correct part in hand when the time comes. Thank you.

I used a Delphi CFE0114. It is made in China, but so far so good. Only issue was it didn't come with a new sock.

Something else to consider. And maybe this won't matter to you. But if you're debating swapping out the pump and then possibly doing some mods down the road you might want to consider a pump that is E85 compatible. Being that there isn't much rubber fuel line on these cars from the factory and it's fairly easy to add a flex sensor to run E85. But you need a compatible pump. i went with a Walbro 450 and I go back and forth between regular 93 and E85 all the time.

I dunno if it fits a Delphi pump, but holley makes a Hydramat that supposedly works with the 255, P/N 16-111. Thank you .

My listing shows that pump is 32 GPH (121LPH ish) with a maximum pressure of 85 psi. For anyone searching.

I had not considered E85, good Idea, thank you.Oh, not much debate of "if" it's getting "tuned up" but when.

Well, crud.

No Start, No Fuel - CorvetteForum - Chevrolet Corvette Forum Discussion

I should have posted this last night, but I was working on other things.

Car is currently in Arizona near the town of Queen Creek. I was hoping to have more time before having to change, unless someone spots something I've missed.

I've had recent experience with both Delphi and Walbro fuel pumps and so far I have no complaints with either.

I've had luck with both as well.

Thank you.

I went with a Delphi HP10031, not only was it what I could get quickly, the portion of the harness above the pump unit (outside the tank) looked terrible. The 12v lead wire for the pump had been stabbed with a test light at least once, no one taped it over, the strands of wire I could see through the hole in the insulation were already green ish. Seemed a better idea to change the assembly than be broken down by the roadside with fewer tools.
