I’m hoping for some help guys,
my project is an ‘89 with a 383 small block. It’s been a looong time coming for this project and when I got it on the dyno it blew out the heater core. I recognize age could have been the issue, but before I go too far I need advice. The engine was out when I got the car so I have no reference on it.
Where does the heater flow control valve go, on the intake manifold or in the side of the water pump? I’ve got a valve on the way, but I need to know where it goes.
thanks for any help/advice you can share!
From memory it was around the passenger exhaust manifold but I remove those valves usually. With water flowing through the core full time it's less likely to have corrosion issues from my experiences.

I’m not sure where on the exhaust manifold you’re describing, but the one I’m using looks like a regular hose fitting that screws in the intake manifold or water pump. The valve part of it is a one-way valve inside the fitting.
The water valve to stop anti freeze going to the heater core in summer can be anywhere, I remember it being around the exhaust manifold area. Put it anywhere there is room or put stock hoses on and it should be obvious then. I usually buy my own heater hose and cut to fit so I don't know if stock is available.
Small block Chevy has the heater control valve mounted to the intake. So supply ( for the heater core) from the intake manifold to the heater valve to the heater core and return to the pump.

Thanks for the help ‘Wolf!
Stock hoses aren’t really available. Some places have hoses that are plumbed with plastic T-fittings, but the OEM was all molded. Either way, my car was a big model kit when i got it and now I’m trying to figure out what’s what.

Thank you! This is what I was hoping for! Very much appreciated!
I thought you were talking about the valve that is on the heater hose.
Sorry for any confusion on the part name. It was my understanding the part was called a valve. As it happens I have one on the way!I guess I need to put it into the manifold to feed the heater core and then the other hose back to the water pump.
Now I’ll need to find a day to swap out the heater core.
Thanks again!
