I recently installed a new set of Hawk pads all around and after a few days it began making a very high pitch sound (squealing) only during slow stop and go traffic. Well this was driving me nuts. So I reexamined the brake pads and applied some Lithium grease at a few metal-to-metal contact points and I'm happy to say the squealing sound is gone.

Re: FYI: Squealing Hawk Brake pad problem resolved (93LT1)
Hank,
I have always applied a small amount of silicone sealer (RTV) between the pad and all contact points. I then apply the brakes one time, then allow the silicone to set. I have never had any excessive wear problems when I do this ~ and never have brake squeel.
