I have been chasing a plethora of issues. Running extremely rich, backfiring through exhaust and intake, cant idle, cant rev past 2200 rpm. Today I removed the prom to inspect and it appeared fine. Put it back in the car and it fired up and run better than it has since these issues started. 20 seconds later it returned to the rich/no idle state it was in before. This has me suspicious of the ecm/prom. I pulled the cover off the ecm and there appears to be white corrosion in placed on the board on soldering points. My heater core does have a leak... time for a new ecm? Rust on ecm cover screws
Replacing the ecm would be my second step. The first step would be to get moisture away from the ECM and replace the bad heater core. I don't know what year yours is, but on my 86 the ecm has to come out anyhow to replace the heater core.
Moisture in electronic components is never a good thing...
