Changing pads and rotors on my 1984 auto, everything went smooth on front drivers side but when tried to get all together the caliper piston was extended out too far even to get compression tool in, and brake pads had heat cracks so would like to replace both front calipers, no store near me has them in stock, is there any alternative I can use that doesn't involve ordering something online? Parts stores cant order either

What are you using to compress piston.
A large C clamp is the tool of choice.

Does your local parts store have a rebuild kit for them? Unless they're damaged, a rebuild should suffice.

You could always remove the caliper and take it to a machine shop to compress the piston. Really, if you can't figure out how to compress the piston maybe brakes are something you should leave to a professional. Dan

this was more of a "looking for a quick replacement" post, the caliper is obviously past its prime, im quite familiar with how to do brakes but I appreciate the advice

What part store doesn't carry it, because I think the keyboard wizard at the store is wrong. I just ran it through 2 different stores they carry it they will probably need to warehouse order but me that could mean a 11am in store or 3pm maybe an day
