I have a 96 CE LT4. It has started to make a howling noise when I make a turn. It sounds like it is coming from the rear end area. Any ideas? This has got me worried.
Thanks for any help/advice. :nonod: :nonod:

Re: Howling noise when turning (scorned1)
My '96 LT4 just started doing the same thing, but only when turning left at slow speed/small radius turns. At first I thought "rear wheel bearing", but the more I hear it, the more I'm thinking "differential". Hope one of youz guyz has experienced this and can steer the both of us in the right direction.
When my 86 did this, the rear end fluid needed to be changed. It sounded like a power steering howl around turns both left and right.Doing some figure 8's in a parking lot helped narrowed it down.New fluid and posi additive did the trick. Also,DO check the bearings as well.

Re: Howling noise when turning (scorned1)
Thanks for all the advice. I will check the bearings and fluid level.
It would be very unusual and highly coincidental for both bearings to go bad at the same time.
I wouldn't just "check" the fluid, I would change it, including adding the "GM Diff additive". I just remembered a friend had a similar problem on a C3 a while back and changing the fluid and putting in new additive solved it.
I removed as much fluid as possible. Added one bottle of GM posi additive and filled it up with new oil and the howling is gone.
Thanks for the help.
