Default Headers or intake?

I have an '86 w/ported iron heads(I know, junky casting) TPIS 700-135(224 int/ex@.050 .495 lift int/ex) and a 2500 stall converter. The next two things I want are TPIS headers and a Superram. Which should I do first, since I can only afford one right now. Thanks!

The SuperRam I think would do you more good as you already opened up your heads. But you will need the accel lower intake manifold too, as without it you won't get the best out of your SuperRam intake.

Have fun with both though.

Seeing you would want the Accel base to fully take advantage of the SR, how about Hooker headers since they are a little cheaper and appear to work just as well? Then you would have some money already saved towards the SR too. Just seem like it would suck having to install the SR twice if you did it without the base and then bought the base.

Headers first, then intake.

I was actually planning on getting the base first, then picking up the upper on E-Bay. As far as headers go, I haven't made up my mind yet. There are TONS of opinions in the archives, but more often than not it seems like TPIS edges Hooker due to ease of install and overall fit. Y-pipe in particular.

Yeah, now that you mention it they are around the same price. I paid $750 for a new set of headers and y-pipe from TPIS. and paid $825 for a used SuperRam. I don't know if it matters which you do first. I did however did my headers first before my SuperRam.

I would do headers first!

You won’t be able to derive full advantage from the Superram without headers and vice verse. But if you start with headers you will at least improve the sound from your machine. And that count for allots.

:iagree: I agree also, the new sound will motivate your purchase of the Super ram and then you will have some serious grunt.

Headers and complete exhaust first. Buy the Hookers or Hedmans without the Y pipe and build a good exhaust behind them for $750.

Then, port and match your plenum, runners, and manifold.

What have you done for ECM tuning?

If you've already cleaned up the exhaust flow you might gain 15hp from LT headers.

I think the SR & base will give you more boost though, so I would tend to go here first.

Since you'll be doing both it realy doesn't matter the order.

You might put a few extra $$ into a B&M governor recalibration kit and digital postal scale so you can raise the WOT shift points.
